Carl A. Harvey II, MS is instructor of school librarianship at Longwood University in Farmville, Virginia. Harvey received his master’s degree from Indiana University and is the author of five books, most recently Leading the Common Core Initiative: A Guide for K-5 School Librarians (with coauthor Linda Mills). He is a past-president of the American Association of School Librarians, and his school has been the recipient of the National School Library Program of the Year. INSTRUCTIONAL LEADERSHIP
Leslie B. Preddy, MS is school librarian at Perry Meridian Middle School in Indianapolis, IN since 1992, and has served as an adjunct professor for Indiana University, Indiana State University, and IUPUI. She has presented webinars and is a frequent speaker and consultant at education conferences and events. She has published many articles in professional journals, co-created online resources for educators, and is the author of SSR with Intervention: A School Library Action Research Project, Social Readers: Promoting Reading in the 21st Century, and School Library Makerspaces. Preddy is a recipient of many awards including AASL’s Collaborative School Library Media Award and Perry Township Schools Teacher of the Year. She is a past president of both the American Association of School Librarians and the Association of Indiana School Library Educators. Preddy is a recent recipient of two grants for her school library makerspace from the U.S. Institute of Museum and Library Services, administered by the Indiana State Library. LIBRARY IN CONTEXT
Rebecca J. Morris, MLIS, PhD is adjunct professor of LIS at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro. She earned her doctoral and master’s degrees at the University of Pittsburgh and holds a bachelor’s degree in elementary and kindergarten education from Pennsylvania State University, Schreyer Honors College. Morris has a background as an elementary classroom teacher and middle school librarian. She teaches graduate courses in school library curriculum and management, children’s materials and services, and digital media production. Her research interests include educational preparation of school librarians and digital storytelling. COLLECTIONS
Sylvia Vardell, PhD is professor in the School of Library and Information Studies at Texas Woman’s University and teaches courses in literature for children and young adults. She has authored or co-authored more than 100 published articles, more than 25 book chapters, and given more than 150 presentations at national and international conferences. She is the author of Children’s Literature in Action: A Librarian’s Guide, Poetry Aloud Here!, The Poetry Teacher’s Book of Lists, Poetry People, co-edits The Poetry Friday Anthology series (with Janet Wong) and maintains the PoetryForChildren blog and poetry column for ALA’s Book Links magazine.
CURRICULUM
Liz Deskins, MA is teacher-librarian at Hilliard Bradley High School in Hilliard, Ohio. She earned her master’s degree from Ohio State University and is coauthor of the book Linking Picture Book Biographies to National Content Standards: 200+ Lives to Explore. She has served in leadership roles within the American Association of School Librarians (AASL) and sat on the task force that created the AASL Top Websites for Teaching and Learning awards. Deskins currently serves as president of the Ohio Educational Library Media Association (OELMA). She has been a school librarian for more than 25 years, teaching and learning at elementary and high school levels.
